Maverick Athletics names finalist for Athlete of the Year Award
The Northwest Kansas Technical College athletics department has announced the finalist for the male and female student-athlete of the year award to be present at the mavericks athletics banquet April 23rd, 2017, at the Elks Lodge, in Goodland, KS. The coaches and staff of the Tech will choose the winners.
The Following male student-athletes have been selected as finalist:
Eddie Reese - So. - Men's Basketball - Highland Park, Michigan
Eddie Reese was chosen as a finalist after setting numerous records this year for Northwest Tech men's basketball team. Reese broke the single season record for points with 605, blowing past the previous mark of 586 single season points. Reese then broke the single season scoring average while averaging 19.6 ppg, which beat the old mark held by Gian Clavell, now at Colorado State University at 19.5 ppg. Reese finished the season second all time in 3PT's made with 81, while shooting 39%. One of Reese greatest accomplishment was being recognized for his efforts by juco recruiting.com (a professional scouting service) as the 71st best player in the nation.
Odgi Batkhishag - Fr. - Wrestling - Mongolia
Odgerel Batkhishag was chosen as a finalist for his historical run this year throughout the season and in the NJCAA National Tournament. Odgerel finished the season with a Maverick school record 44-10. In Batkhishag's season he finished 27-2 versus NJCAA DI opponents and 5-1 versus NCAA DI opponents. Odgerel was crowned Champion at the Kansas Cup making him the first champion in tech history at this event, and again at the Wyoming Open Tournament. Some other top performances included: 2nd at the Northern Colorado Tournament, 2nd at the Rocky Mountain Qualifier, 4th at the Nebraska Kearney Tournament, and 5th at the Doane Tournament. Odgerel's greatest feat came in the national tournament where he only saw one defeat to finish 3rd at NJCAA National Tournament making him an NJCAA DI All-American. Odgerel also posted huge wins versus the Big 12 Freshman of the year at Heavyweight and the NCAA Division 1 2nd team Freshman Heavyweight of the year.
Greg Williams - Fr. - Men's Soccer - South Bend, Indiana
Greg Williams was chosen as a finalist for his works hard and great work ethic. Greg is a coaches' dream, one that will take the initiative and work on his own game but will too do what needs to be done to improve those around him. The soccer coaches summed up Williams coachability as "no complaints". Greg has been a scholar in the classroom and serves as a great asset for the men's soccer program, on campus and in the Goodland community. This season, Greg saw action in all 15 games as a starter and had 4 points from 1 goal and 2 assists.
Dominique Evans - So. - Wrestling - Denver, Colorado
Dominique Evans was chosen as a finalist after his All American run in the NJCAA National tournament placing 7th. Dominique finished the season with an impressive 30-14 record which almost flipped his previous record in the 2015-16 season of 16-30. Dominique is a 2X NJCAA National Qualifier and placed in three additional tournaments leading to nationals. Dominique took the crown finishinf 1st at the Doane Tournament, where he fefeated the NAIA National Champion in the finals, 3rd at the Kansas Cup, and 4th at the Rocky Mountain National Qualifier

Rohey Singhateh - So. - Track and Field - Atwood, Kansas
Rohey Singhateh was chosen as a finalist following her unprecedented career here at the Tech. During Rohey's time, so far, at Northwest Tech, she has been a two time National Qualifier in the Long Jump. Rohey's 2017 qualifying jump was 5.90m (about 19' 3"), her 2017 qualifying jump was 5.95m (about 19' 6.25"), and there is still plenty of season left to improve. Rohey is a multiple record holder at Northwest Tech. She currently holds individual Indoor records in the 60m Dash (8.14 seconds) and the Long Jump (5.70m; about 18' 8"). Rohey's individual outdoor records include the 100m Dash (13.02 seconds) and Long Jump (5.95m; 19' 6.25"). Rohey also set records as a member of team events in the 4x100m Relay and 1600m Sprint Medley Relay. Rohey currently holds the #2 jump in NJCAA DI and is leading Region VI.
Fernanda Garcia - Fr. - Women's Soccer - Mexico City, Mexico
Fernanda Garcia was chosen as a finalist after being a freshman standout for the women's soccer team this season. Fernanda has shown the most improvement in the women's soccer program this spring according to the coaches, and always contributes positively to practices. Fernanda is always positive and doesn't complain. Fernanda has exemplified the type of player that will do everything asked of her in the gym, on the pitch, and in the classroom. Fernanda saw action and started in 11 games this season, with 5 points on 5 assists.
Tran Brown - Fr. - Women's Basketball - Jacksonville, Florida
Tran Brown was chosen as a finalist after breaking all scoring records in Northwest Tech women's basketball history. Tran was selected as the NJCAA DI National Player of the Week after helping the Lady Mavericks defeat their first KJCCC opponent in school history. Tran was selected to the WBCA/US Marine Corps Coaches All-America Honorable Mention Team. Tran Brown has also been selected as the Super Sonic Player of the Game six times this season. Tran leads the country in points in the season and finished the season as the #1 scorer in Region 6. Tran also holds the Single Season Points - 585 (#11 in NJCAA DI), Three-Pointers Made in a season - 105 (6th in NJCAA DI), Steals in a single season - 95, and Field Goals Made in a single season - 189.
Juliet James - So. - Women's Basketball - Kaduna, Nigeria
Juliet James was chosen as a finalist after completing the most prolific career in Lady Mavericks history. Juliet was selected to the WBCA/US Marine Corps Coaches All-America Honorable Mention Team. Juliet finished the season averaging 11.8ppg, 12.8rpg, 1.8apg, and has averaged a double-double for two consecutive seasons. Juliet will graduate as the all-time point and rebound record holder in school history. Juliet is also a part of the class '17 with the all-time most wins in the programs history, 49 over two seasons.
