Men's Soccer falls on the road to Garden City Community College

GOODLAND, KS- The Mavericks winning streak ended at a gritty against Garden City CC. The Mavericks never seemed to get going, There were only 3 or 4 opportunities from Damian Michalec, Will Pointon and Jordan Maska. GCCC took the lead in the 2nd half and defended well, craziness hit the field with yellow cards flowing and goalkeeper Kieran Harrison earning a red card for what is called a non-violent ejection, shortly after assistant coach Adam Morley and Coach Carroll received a yellow card. The Mavericks tested the goalkeeper and GCCC's defense several times, their were several appeals for penalty kicks which were waved away. Despite a heroic 10 men down effort the Mavs were unable to break the solid GCCC's defense.

After the game Coach Carroll said "We need to be better, our defensive shape was poor, our composure on the ball not just in front of goal but in general just needs to be better. I think we let ourselves down today. If we can stick to the game plan, do our jobs and win our individual battles we will be fine, unfortunately just working hard against a lesser team doesn't force the game in your favor that's just soccer and thats that. I just finished talking to the guys and dropped in there that the women's team had a game plan they stuck to it and got a win, the lad's unfortunately did it for maybe 2 minutes if that and lost, I'm glad we took this loss early in the season I think it might peg some ego's back a bit. I am looking to put this behind us and look towards a tough game against Cloud County CC on Tuesday"

The Mavericks will host a doubleheader against Cloud County Community College on September 12th at the Lutters Field located in Goodland, KS. The women's game will start at 2 p.m. followed by the men's at 4 p.m.
