Mavericks dominates season opener at Cowboys Open

GOODLAND, KS - Returning All-American Odgerel Batkhishig led the way for a strong showing for the Mavericks at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyoming on Saturday.  Odgerel went 4-0 to claim the 285 Elite Division Championship, going 3-0 against D1 competition and a 5-2 victory over the 6th ranked D2 wrestler.   Fellow Mongolian patriots Muugi and Buka had success in their first folkstyle wrestling experience and gained valuable experience that will help them as the Maverick wrestling team continues its march to nationals in Council Bluffs at the end of February.

Goodland native Tate Withington was  5-1 at 125 in his first collegiate tournament.  Tate finished in the top 4 in the tournament and had a great tournament to start off his Maverick Wrestling Career.    Florida's Natorian "Tank" Lee had a great first tournament as well for the Mavericks as well making it to the semi-finals in the 165 pound bracket and Sam Colvin from Alabama made a strong debut with 3 victories in the 149 pound weight class.

Ryan Pierce of Nevada also collected his first win of his career for the Mavericks this weekend and Caleb Mendez had his first college career pin. 

The Mavericks open up their dual season at home this Tuesday (11/7) against Northeastern, Colorado.
