Mavericks Win at the Buzzer Against Independence

Mavericks Win at the Buzzer Against Independence

Northwest Tech Men's Basketball won in walk-off fashion Wednesday, beating Independence Community College at the buzzer 83-82.

The game started very fast-paced as Indy got out to an early ten-point lead, 14-4, five minutes into the first half. Northwest Tech quickly called a timeout and got to work. Tech proceeded to score six points unanswered before Indy got back to scoring, pushing their lead back out to ten points. The Mavs were eventually able to push the lead down to five points, as they ended the half 37-41.

The Mavericks started a little slow in the second half, but it was very much a back-and-forth game. Tech was eventually able to take the lead at about the 11:00-minute mark, as the Mavs forced turnovers and Indy's outside shots stopped hitting. From there, the game was a sprint to the finish line as the Mavs were able to get out to a seven-point lead. However, Independence was able to inch their way back as Tech got into foul trouble. Indy was able to take the lead at the 1:00-minute mark, as Northwest Tech was unable to execute on offense and were forced to foul Indy again as they extended their lead by one point, 82-80, with 12 seconds left. The Mavs then drove down the court and passed the ball around the perimeter without a good look at a shot. Then, with seconds left, Charles Fofanah gets the ball, puts up a shot, and drains a 3-pointer, winning the game.

Overall, the Mavericks played well after the first five minutes, as they were able to capitalize off of turnovers and second-chance opportunities. Keyishon Miller in particular had a good game offensively, shooting an efficient 8-10 from the field and made 5-6 free throws, ultimately leading the team in scoring at 21 points.

Men's Basketball will play their next game at home on Wednesday vs. the Pratt Community College Beavers.
