Mavericks Secure Win over Independence

Men's Basketball secured their second victory over the Independence Community College Pirates on Wednesday, 95-84, making it their second sweep of the season after winning over Colby the week prior.

Both teams came out of the gate moving the ball up and down the floor, with the Mavericks quickly gaining a eight point lead around the 14 minute mark. What really separated Tech from Indy in the first half was capitalizing off of turnovers, as they scored numerous amount of times. The Pirates would go on a short scoring run of their own, coming within two pionts of the Mavs before they pulled away again, maintaining a steady lead until halftime, with the score at 55-46.

In the second half, Tech's consistant offense and lockdown defense proved to be too much for the Pirates as they secured a solid double-digit lead over their opponent for the majority of the half. The real separation of scores occured at the freethrow line, where the Mavs shot 71% on 41 attempts, while Indy shot just 50% on 24 attempts.

Further looking at the stats, there were five Mavericks in double figures, with Keyishon Miller, Charles Fofanah, Taiden Conner, and Emarquis Jones all recording double-doubles off of points and rebounds.

Looking ahead, Tech's next game will be on the road against Pratt Community College where they'll look to pickup another win.
