Mavs soccer draws 1-1 in first exhibition of season

The Northwest Kansas Technical College men's soccer team played the first of their two scheduled preseason exhibitions to a 1-1 draw against the Colorado Switchbacks of the United Soccer League.

According to head coach Danny Main, the main purpose of the trip was to build team chemistry and to log a successful 90 minute match against a quality opponent.

"There was some good and there was some bad, but for our first full match, as a team, I think we'll take that performance," Main said. "You always want the result, but we had many players play large amount of minutes, we saw some live competition, and we were able to apply weeks of practice and tactics into competitive play. Overall it was a good weekend."

Sophomore defender Kevin Foster (George Town, Grand Cayman) had the Mavs only goal against the Switchbacks, nailing a nearly 25-yard shot from goal into the left panel.

The Mavericks spent the whole weekend in Colorado Springs, training Friday, Aug. 12th at the recently opened SoccerHaus indoor facility before facing the Switchbacks on Saturday.

Up next for the Mavericks is their final exhibition at Fort Hays State University on August 19th in Hays, KS. The tigers are ranked 15th in the NCAA-DII preseason polls.
