Mavs Fall 4-0 at Fort Hays State in Final Preseason Exhibition

Northwest Kansas Technical College finished their preseason tour at Fort Hays State University Aug. 19th, falling 4-0 to the Tigers.

The Mavericks kept the score 0-0 going into halftime, but the Tigers broke through in the 65th minute. Head coach Danny Main said postgame he was very satisfied with the effort from his team.

"Obviously we wanted the result, but going a full 60 minutes with one of the best NCAA-DII teams in the country was a big step in the right direction for us," Main said. "Defensively, we were solid for the most part. A few mistakes here and there, but those are easy fixes."

Two of the biggest takeaways, Main said, were the chemistry this team has developed already, and getting to see some players play significant minutes after nursing some offseason injuries back to health.

This was the second consecutive year the Mavericks have played Fort Hays State University in a preseason match. The Tigers are ranked 15th in the preseason NCAA-DII polls going into the 2016-17 season.

The Mavs end their preseason matches 0-1-1, having tied the USL's Colorado Switchbacks FC 1-1 last week.

The regular season and home opener for Northwest Tech is Saturday, Aug. 27th against Laramie County Community College from Region IX. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30pm MT in Goodland.
