Men's Soccer Cruises Pass Colorado Northwestern Community College

GOODLAND, KS- It took just 12minutes for the Mavericks to break the deadlock, when Damian Michalec #9 volleyed home a long throw in from sophomore Jordan Maska #22. 9 Minutes later the big freshman from Huddersfield, England Brandon Hardy #3 struck gold tucking the ball past the Northwestern Colorado GK from another long throw in from Jordan Maska. The Mav's slacked a little bit for the next 15 minutes of the first half, losing possession cheaply and making routine mistakes. The last 8 minutes of the first half was all the Mavericks though. Good possession and expert deliveries from set pieces allowed the Juho Saukko #8 to bang home the Tech's 3rd goal of the day in the 44th minute.

The second half started well for the Mavericks and after just 7 minutes of play freshman Joe Greener #25 bagged his first of the season nestling the ball into the bottom right corner with the assist from freshman Sam Brown. The Mav's were in cruise control until freshman goalkeeper Saahil Kapoor misjudged a backpass and had to bring down a Northwestern Colorado player in the box. Saahil was issued a yellow card and made way for Northwest Techs #1, freshman Kieran Harrison who made the PK save. Northwest Tech regained control of the game and was awarded a penalty kick. Freshman Cain Smith #6 stepped up and his effort was saved by the Northwestern Colorado goalkeeper.

After the game Coach Carroll said "I am pleased with the overall effort and a shut out, but we have been very wasteful of possession and even more wasteful in front of goal. We will be working on composure when on the ball and in front of goal before our next game against Pratt. But a win is a win and I will take a W every day of the week, Next week the men's and women's teams both play Pratt in the Jayhawk conference so I am looking for them to have made all their mistakes in preseason and give us & themselves a stellar performance next time out."

The Mavs will host another home game in Goodland, KS against Pratt Community College on Tuesday, September 5 at 4 p.m.
