First meet breaks school records
On Saturday, February 6th, the Men's and Women's Maverick Track and Field team competed at the University of Nebraska-Kearney's Indoor Invitational. Other teams in attendance were UNK, Ft. Hays State, Hastings College, Colby Community College, and Dodge City Community College. This was Northwest Tech's first meet of the year. Many of the teams there had at least 3 competitions under their belt already and have begun preparations for their conference, regional, and national competitions.
Despite this being Tech's first outing, the meet went smoothly. Three women participated for Northwest Tech. Highlights included Jaleshia Johnson (FR, MA) winning her heat in the 200m, Purity Jepleting's (FR, MA) performances in the 800m and 1 mile runs, and Rohey Singhateh's (FR, BT) overall first place finish in the Long Jump with a jump of 5.70m (18' 8.5"). Singhateh's jump puts her 4th in the nation for NJCAA. School records were set in the 60m dash, 200m dash, 800m run, mile run, and the long jump.
