Indoor Track & Field Compete at Washburn

Northwest Tech Track & Field has returned after competing at the Washburn Rust Buster over the weekend. The Mavericks had four nation qualifying times in three events.

"I am very impressed with how our team has started the season, with six national qualifying times," commented Coach Kiptoo. "I think there is still much room to improve upon those times as the season progresses, and I'm excited to see what else they will accomplish."

Sprints & Field Events

In the Men's 60-meter Prelims, Derrick Harbin and Jaydon Moore placed 10th and 20th, respectively, with times of 6.92 sec. and 7.01 sec. In the Women's 60-meter Prelims, Shalai Dye competed, placing 43rd with a time of 8.69 seconds. 

In the Men's 200-meter Dash, Jaysaun Smith placed 2nd with a time of 21.54 seconds, breaking his previously held school record. Marcus Purcell also competed, placing 8th with a time of 21.76 seconds, missing the national qualifying mark by .06th of a second. Jaysaun's time has him ranked 7th in the nation.

In Men's Pole Vault for the Mavericks Brayden Shaw placed 24th with a vault of 3.90 meters. 

Competing in Women's Shot Put was Hope Perry, placing 45th with a throw of 9.17 meters.

 

Long & Middle Distance

In the Men's Mile, the Mavericks had two runners qualify for nationals. The first, Brian Kiptoo, placed 3rd with a time of (4:17.57). Next, coming in 4th was Raphael Kitur with a time of (4:17.76). In 7th was Peter Kipkemboi with a time of (4:22.18). And finishing 49th was Brian Kipkosgei with a time of (4:49.53). Brian and Raphael's times rank them at 5th and 7th in the nation.

In the Men's 3000-meter, Brian Kiptoo placed 5th with a time of (8:30.76). Raphael Kitur placed 6th with a national qualifying time of (8:31.50). Finishing 7th was Peter Kipkemboi with a time of (8:31.81). Brain Kipkosgei placed 54th with a time of (9:37.86). Three Mavericks are now in the top 10 for the 3000m.

 

Northwest Tech's next event will be at Washburn again for the Washburn Open on Friday, February 3rd, in Topeka, KS.
