Track & Field Compete at Region VI Indoor Championships

Northwest Tech Track & Field competed at the KJCCC/Region VI Indoor Championships over the weekend, placing 14th in the men's team scores.

Sprints & Field Events

In the 60-meter dash, the Mavs had three runners compete, with Emilio Blackbourne and Kendrick Jones leading the way, placing 19th and 20th, both with a time of 6.99 seconds. Also competing was Kobey Taylor, who placed 25th with a time of 7.14 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, the Mavericks had three runners compete, with Kendrick Jones placing 16th with a time of 22.26 seconds, Kobey Taylor in 23rd with a time of 22.91, and Tyrik Edwards, whose results were disqualified. In the 400m dash, Jarbirey Carter competed, placing 31st with a time of 56.75 seconds.

 

Long & Middle Distance

In the 600-meter run, Daniel Cornelissen and Ronin Rybnika competed with times of 1:29.63 and 1:30.95. In the 800-meter run, Taylor Kleinow placed 24th with a time of 2:15.46. In the 1000-meter run, Edgar Kosgei and Daniel Cornelissen competed, placing 15th and 16th, with times of 2:44.07 and 2:44.26. In the mile, three Mavericks competed, with Sibonokuhle Thwala placing 7th with a time of 4:21.60. Kabelo Maja placed next with a time of 4:23.72 in 10th. The last to finish was Edgar Kosgei in 20th with a time of 4:47.72. In the 3000-meter run, Lucky Maila placed 15th with a time of 9:15.20. Just behind was teammate Ronin Rybnika in 16th with a time of 9:18.12. Last was Denis Kibet, finishing 23rd with a time of 9:56.09. In the 5000-meter run, the Mavericks had their most competitive race, with Kabelo Maja placing 10th with a time of 15:21.49, Lucky Maila in 12th with a time of 15:42.66, and Sibonokuhle Thwala in 13th with a time of 15:56.41.

 

Northwest Tech's next meet will be at the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Gainesville, Florida, on March 1st. The Mavericks will be sending one runner this year, with Kabelo Maja having qualified for the men's 3000m race earlier in the year. 

You can come out and support Kabelo along with our men's and women's wrestling teams next Wednesday at noon in the front admin building, where they will be having their sendoff before they get ready to travel to Nationals.
