Track & Field Compete at Jo Meaker Classic

Northwest Tech Track & Field traveled to West Texas A&M University for the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi at the end of last week. The Mavs had three runners qualify for Nationals at the meet in the 110m hurdles, 1500m, and 5000m.

Sprints & Field Events

In the 100m dash, the Mavericks had five runners compete, with Jerry Phillippe leading the way in 16th place with a time of 10.63 seconds. Emilio Blackbourne and Kobey Taylor finished just behind in 17th and 18th with times of 10.65 and 10.66 seconds, respectively. Also competing were Tyrik Edwards and Isaac Bisaso, with times of 11.22 and 12.88 seconds. In the 110m hurdles, Jerry Phillippe was the lone Mav, placing 3rd with a national qualifying time of 14.06 seconds. In the 200m dash, Joseph Muzenda placed 11th with a time of 21.39 seconds, and Tyrik Edwards placed 40th with a time of 22.33 seconds. Jabirey Carter competed in the 400m hurdles, placing 9th with a time of 1:03.01.

In the 4x100m relay, the Mavericks placed 3rd with a time of 41.45 seconds. The competing runners included Kobey TaylorKendrick JonesEmilio Blackbourne, and Joseph Muzenda.

 

Long & Middle Distance

In the 800m run, Edgar Kosgei finished 11th with a time of 2:07.09, Tayler Kleinow placed 12th with a time of 2:11.98, and Connor Purvis, placed 14th with a time 2:36.82. On the women's side of the competition, Elli Edwards competed in the 800m, finishing 11th with a time of 3:00 minutes. In the 1500m run, Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 2nd with a national qualifying time of 4:00.80. In the 5000m run, the Mavericks had four competitors, with Kabelo Maja leading the way, placing 1st with a national qualifying time of 15:11.81. Lucky Maila finished next in 3rd with a time of 16:09.33, then Ronin Rybnika in 4th with a time of 16:18.30, and then Denis Kibet in 5th with a time of 17:18.79. Daniel Cornelissen competed in the 3000m steeplechase, placing 1st with a time of 11.06.96.

 

Track & Field's next meet will be at the Kansas Relays, hosted by Kansas University in Lawrence, KS, on the 18th.
