Cross Country Places 1st in Firestarter Classic

Iola, KS. – Northwest Tech Men's Cross Country placed 1st (42 points) at the Firestarter Classic on Saturday, with three runners finishing in the top 10. Cowley College placed 2nd (65 points) and Garden City CC placed 3rd (123 points).

Placing 5th overall for the Mavericks was Kabelo Maja, with a time of (25:15.2). Next to finish was Lucky Maila in 7th, with a time of (25:35.9). Not far behind, finishing in 9th place was Daniel Cornelissen, with a time of (25:45.2). Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 18th with a time of (26:18.7) and Ronin Rybnika placed 25th, rounding out the scoring for the Mavericks.

Also competing in the race was Edgar Kosgei with a time of (29:47.2), Denis Kibet with a time of (29:57.3), and Connor Purvis with a time of (33:19.9).

"My guys did very well," commented Coach Sambu. "I was happy with everyone's performance, and I'm glad to see that we're going in the right direction. Sibo and Daniel are not one hundred percent healthy, but they still ran well. Hopefully, they will be one hundred percent by the 28th."

Cross Country's next meet will be at Iola, KS, again for the Region VI Championships on October 28th.
