Lady Mavericks Basketball off to best start in school history

The Northwest Kansas Technical College Lady Mavericks (NWKTC) basketball team swept Brown Mackie and Barclay this weekend in the Brown Mackie Classic held in Salina, KS. All players on the roster saw the floor as the Lady Mavericks wrapped up a 10-0 start to the season, which accounts for the best start in school history. Also the Lady Mavericks had their highest scoring performance of the 2016-17 season with 103 points against Barclay College. The Lady Mavericks have posted victories against Bethany JV (2), Tabor JV, University of Colorado-Denver, McCook CC, Otero JC, Western Wyoming CC, Miles CC, Brown Mackie, and Barclay College.

Five players have double digit scoring averages including leading scorer freshman Tran Brown with 17.0ppg; followed by sophomores: Juliet James 11.8; A'nikeyawna Barber 11.4; Zoi Thompson 11.0; and Arion Jackson 10.9.  James is also averaging 11 rebounds per game, which currently ranks Top 20 in all of NJCAA DI and sophomore Anjana Davidson leads the team in blocks with 5. "This is a special group, that is humble and have bought in to the concept of 'Be Great' in everything that we set out to accomplish", said Kevin Lynum, Head Women's Basketball Coach of the Lady Mavericks. With this year's outstanding freshman class, which includes Carlie Epstein, Destiny Lindsey, Mikeinah Downs, Dejoure Boland, and Emerald Hart, who have all logged heavy minutes in varsity play this season, the future is bright!

The Lady Mavericks will travel to North Platte November 30th before returning home December 3rd for a contest against University of Colorado-Denver, in the MAX at 6pm MT.
