Christian Selected as Maverick Women's Basketball Head Coach

Northwest Tech is proud to announce the selection of Brittany Christian as the next head coach of the Lady Mavericks basketball program. Christian, who spent the 2016-2017 year as the assistant coach for the Mavericks, is no stranger to success. During the course of the season, she helped coach the team to an impressive 28-2 record, setting numerous program records along the way. Following the completion of the basketball season, Christian was named Junior College National Assistant Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association for her efforts.

She will take over the program with a strong contingent of returning sophomores and new recruits for next season. "I am ecstatic that President Schears has entrusted me with the Lady Maverick Basketball program. The Northwest Tech campus and Goodland community have welcomed me with open arms from day one, and I'm excited to continue solidifying Northwest Tech's status as a regional and national contender" Christain said. "As a program, we achieved great levels of success last season and with the return of arguably the most talented freshmen class in the region, we are looking to improve on and surpass the marks previously set. Our returning players and incoming Lady Mavs are committed to establishing a legacy of discipline, accountability and success that will continue on for years to come."

Prior to coming to Northwest Tech, Christian spent time as an assistant coach at Cheyney University, Frostburg State University, Virginia State University, and Saint Paul's College, all NCAA programs. In addition to her coaching experience, she has a solid background in NJCAA compliance, as she was responsible for maintaining records and compliance efforts for the entire Northwest Tech athletic program throughout the past year.

Northwest Tech's college President Ben Schears is excited to turn the program over to Christian. "She is a talented and exceptional coach on and off the court and we're glad she will be leading the Lady Mavs next season" he said. "With her experience and familiarity with the team, college, and the community we know she is the right person for the job."

Christian will assume the role immediately following the departure of head coach Kevin Lynum, who is leaving the Mavericks for a career advancement opportunity.
