Women's Basketball Season Recap

Women's Basketball Season Recap

Northwest Tech Women's Basketball's season came to an end Saturday as the Lady Mavs fell to Cloud County in the first round of the Conference Championships, 68-84. The game was close for most of the game, with Cloud only pulling away in the fourth quarter.

Season Recap:

The Lady Mavericks finished the season (12-18) overall and (8-16) in conference play, which is the most conference wins of any women's basketball team at Northwest Tech; this is also despite no returning Freshman from the previous season. All-in-all, the Lady Mavericks had a decent season full of ups and downs but ended the season strong despite losing out of the first round of the Region VI Tournament. If women's basketball can retain some of their Freshmen from this season, they have a high chance of improving going into next year.

"It was a very competitive match-up against Cloud CC for our final game," commented Coach Kassongo. "Unfortunately, we stopped scoring and made too many mistakes in the 4th quarter that cost us. We did not finish the season how we all wanted to, but I'm very proud of how hard this young group competed and overcame adversity the entire season. We had a really great start (4-0), then we started with conference and struggled a bit before finally finding our rhythm. I was impressed with how the group turned it around in the second semester. Our offense & defense improved so much over the course of the season and we became a stronger team."
