Lady Mavs Lose to Barton

Lady Mavs Lose to Barton

Women's basketball lost 38-93 on Wednesday in Northwest Tech's worst loss to Barton Community College.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams in the first half, with the score at 5-7 in the initial three minutes. However, Barton would quickly seize control, going on a 15-0 run, outrebounding the Lady Mavs on both ends of the court. At the same time, Tech came up empty possession after possession, as they seemed unable to run an effective offense and resorted to throwing up three-pointers instead. Barton would continue to beat the Mavs in the paint, as they extended their lead, 27-8, to end the first quarter.

The second quarter didn't see much difference for the Lady Mavs, as Barton moved the ball around on offense, scoring at will. This time, Barton started making shots from the outside, shooting 50% from the 3-point line while also capitalizing off of Northwest Tech turnovers. The half would end with Barton up 47-18.

The second half would see very little change for the Mavericks, as even when they did try to run their offense, Tech would often turn the ball over, resulting in more easy points for the Lady Cougars. In addition to this, Barton would continue to light Tech up from the three-point line, as they shot 57% (4-7) compared to Northwest Tech's 0% (0-7) from beyond the arc. The third quarter would end with a score of 29-75.

The fourth quarter saw Barton's scoring pull back some, as many of their bench players saw more significant playing time. But even then, the Lady Mavericks couldn't find many ways to score the basketball as they continued to make sloppy mistakes.

Overall, Northwest Tech would shoot 21.3% from the field and 10% (3–30) from the three-point line, whereas the Lady Cougars shot 51.4% from the field and 39.1% from the three-point line. The Lady Mavs committed twice as many turnovers, resulting in 26 points off of turnovers for Barton. Torrai Logan scored a season high in points (12) and Alexzandria Thompson tied a season high in assists (5).

Northwest Tech will return to play on Saturday, December 9th, at Garden City Community College.
