Women's Basketball Lose at Cloud

The Lady Mavericks faced a tough loss to the Cloud County Tbirds on Saturday, 66-77.

The Mavs got off to a fast start with excellent ball movement, leading 12-2 fueled by a 10-0 run around the five-minute mark. However, Cloud soon turned the tables on Tech, going on a 9-0 run of their own, capitalizing off of turnovers, putting the game within one. In the second quarter, the game would continue to be a back-and-forth battle, with Cloud tying up the game 16-16 near the 8-minute mark as they started to dish the ball around on offense. The score would be tied again by Cloud, 26-26 at the 4-minute mark, before taking the lead 31-29, capitalizing off of second-chance points as Tech struggled to rebound the ball. The half would end with Cloud leading 37-31.

In the second half, Cloud County would continue where they left off, extending their lead 44-34 four minutes in as the Lady Mavs struggled on defense as their offense stalled. Cloud would lead Northwest Tech 41-56 at the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, the Lady Mavs would continue to compete, working their way back into the game and coming within five points near the halfway point of the quarter. However, it would not be enough as Cloud pushed their lead back out to ten points, maintaining a steady lead until the end of regulation.

Looking at the stats, Alexzandria Thompson had an impressive performance, scoring a career-high 30 points. Key team stat differences include rebounds, with Cloud outrebounding Tech (47-32), along with second-chance points (17-6). All things considered, Northwest Tech played well, especially considering they were missing two of their leading scores, Serena Lee and Sy Crowley.
