Women's Basketball lose at Indy

The Lady Mavericks fell to the Independence Community College Pirates on Saturday, 62-79.

The game started relatively slow in terms of scoring, with both teams moving the ball well on offense. Sy Crowley had a good first quarter, putting up eight points and two offensive rebounds. However, it was clear early on that the Lady Mavs were going to struggle to outrebound Indy, as they had many second-chance points throughout the game. The quarter would end with Indy leading 19-14. In the second quarter, Indy got out to a 13-0 start, forcing a few turnovers with their press while they continued to move the ball around on offense, creating many open shots as they extended their lead. The Lady Mavericks also struggled in transition as Indy moved fast, capitalizing off of Northwest Tech's turnovers. The half ended with Independence leading 43-28.

The Lady Mavericks started the third quarter strong, as they moved the ball around on offense and forced many turnovers. The game was back and forth for a little while; however, the Lady Mavs continued to struggle as they too turned over the ball, and Indy was able to beat them in transition while continuing to run an efficient offense. The third would end with Independence extending their lead, 64-42. The Lady Mavs were finally able to catch a break in the fourth as they were able to outscore the Lady Pirates 20-15. However, Tech still struggled with boxing out their opponent as they continued to accumulate offensive boards.

When looking at the team stats, Indy outrebounded the Lady Mavericks, 50-29, shot a more efficient 41.2%, and had significantly more assists and fastbreak points. On the plus side, the Lady Mavs were able to capitalize more off of turnovers, with 25 points.

Women's Basketball's next game will be on Wednesday, at home vs. Pratt Community College.
