Women's Basketball Fall to Cloud County

Northwest Tech Women's Basketball lost to the Cloud County T-Birds at home on Wednesday in their final game of the season, 72-117. 

The game got off to a quick start with sophomore Tyjhanae Penny hitting a three-pointer in the first 10 seconds. Both teams would go back-and-forth for the opening minutes before Cloud went on a 23-7 scoring run to end the first quarter 30-16. In the second quarter, the Lady Mavs would close the margin some, however they were unable to keep up with the T-Birds' outside shooting. 

The second half would not be much different, with Cloud County outscoring Northwest Tech 61-34. Looking at the stats, Cloud County dominated the Lady Mavs in nearly every category, first at the free throw line, with Cloud making 24-33 free throws compared to Tech's 2-10. Also notable was Cloud's rebounding; outrebounding the Mavericks 60 to 29. The one category that Tech did alright in was from the three-point line, shooting 35%. There were five Mavericks in double figures, first with Alexzandria Thompson leading the way with 20 points, then Tyjhanae Penny and Dionjane Jackson with 11 points, and Cerena Watson and Traysha Newsome with 10 points. Also of note, freshman Cierra Salas scored a career-high 5 points. 

 

The Lady Mavericks concluded the season with a record of 3 wins and 24 losses (2-22 KJCCC).
