Lady Mavericks Fall Short Against Colby

Northwest Tech women's basketball faced a tough loss to Colby Community College on Wednesday, 69-75.

Colby got out to an early lead, securing a 9-2 score just three minutes into the game. Despite this, the Lady Mavs then slowly fought their way back into the game, only down two points at the end of the first quarter. The Lady Mavs then proceeded to take the lead as they executed their offense, and their three-point shots started to hit. Meanwhile, Colby struggled with their outside shooting, managing just 1 out of 10 attempts from beyond the arc. Northwest Tech would end the half up 39-36.

Coming out of halftime, Colby dominated the boards and ran an effective offense that Tech's defense struggled to counter. Tech continued to keep the lead through the third quarter as they countered Colby's offense with their own, maintaining their lead from the first half with the score at 59-54. However, in the fourth quarter, the Maverick's shots stopped hitting, allowing the Lady Trojans to take the lead around the midway point of the quarter as they continued to move the ball around on offense, wearing down Tech's defense in the paint and forcing them into foul trouble. Northwest Tech would not be able to answer with points of their own as the game quickly came to an end.

Overall, with several of their players sitting out due to sickness, the Lady Mavericks didn't play a bad game, especially considering they only used one substitution the entire game, with their one sub fouling out at the halfway point of the fourth quarter. Another major factor in the game's outcome was Tech's lack of defense in the paint while also allowing 24 second-chance points.

Women's basketball will now travel down to Independence, KS, to compete against the Independence Community College Pirates on Saturday.
