Lady Mavs Fall to Pratt

Lady Mavs Fall to Pratt

Northwest Tech Women's Basketball faced a tough loss to the Pratt Community College Beavers on Wednesday, 77-87.

The Pratt Lady Beavers got off to a quick start, with a six-point lead before the Lady Mavericks got to work. The rest of the first half was a back-and-forth game with four ties and eleven lead changes. The half would end with Pratt leading 39-35.

The Lady Mavs would start to struggle in the second half, with Pratt getting out to a 20-point lead at the end of the third quarter, as the Lady Mavericks got into foul trouble with their leading rebounder, Jalynn Alexander, fouling out early in the second half. Despite the challenges, the Lady Mavs continued to compete going into the fourth quarter, cutting the lead back down to single digits at around the halfway point. Unfortunately, despite Tech's best efforts, they were unable to keep up, as the nation's leading scorer, Princess Anderson, thrashed the Mavs' defense, scoring 43 of Pratt's 87 points.

Another significant factor in the outcome of the game was free throws, with Pratt's 80% free throw percentage on 40 free throw attempts, compared to Northwest Tech's 58% shooting on 19 attempts. When looking at the stats, Serena Lee had another big game, leading the Lady Mavs in scoring with 30 points. Sy Crowley also had a significant impact, scoring 15 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and getting 6 steals before sustaining an injury in the fourth quarter.

Northwest Tech will travel to Concordia, KS, on Saturday, where they will face the Cloud County Thunderbirds.
