Women's Basketball Win against Otero

Women's Basketball Win against Otero

Northwest Tech Women's Basketball won over Otero Junior College Sunday afternoon, 79-59. The Lady Mavs got out to a slow start, with Otero up 12-4, five minutes into the game. Then in the last two minutes of the first quarter, Tech scored 11 unanswered points to take the lead 17-16. The Mavs slowly extended their lead in the second quarter, with the score, 41-34 at the half.

In the second half, Otero remained competitive but was ultimately unable to keep up with Northwest Tech's outside shooting and fastbreaks, as the Mavs slowly pulled away, ending the game up twenty. Another big factor in Sunday's win was turnovers, with Otero having twice as many turnovers (24) and less than a fourth of points off of turnovers as Northwest Tech.

"We are on the verge of figuring this out," commented Coach Baker. "When we have players clicking on all cylinders we are pretty hard to guard. Sy Crowley and Jalynn Alexander gave us the edge in the post with rebounding and paint points. Ty Penny, Alexzandria Thompson, Dee Jackson, and Serena Lee followed the scout perfectly. Northwest Tech is on the rise and I'm proud of our effort and intensity. We have a tough one on the road this Tuesday so we have to enjoy the win and move on to the next scout."

Tech's next game will be against Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX, on Tuesday.
