Kevin Lynum joined the Northwest Tech family in May, and is no stranger to the women’s basketball landscape, having served last season as the Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator at Southwestern College (Winfield, Kansas) and the First Assistant Coach at Warner University (Lake Wales, Fla.) prior to that.  While at Southwestern, Lynum assisted the team to a 3rd place finish in the competitive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, and was responsible for recruiting and player development; developing All-American, Jordyn Miller.

Under Lynum’s guidance, the Royals improved their season record by nine wins overall, and three wins The Sun Conference. Lynum coached two “The Sun Conference” All-Conference players, and was responsible for overseeing post player development; developing All- Conference player, Marie Fleurival.

Prior to Warner Lynum held a brief teaching stint at Edward H. White High School in Jacksonville, Fla., which followed an eight-year U.S. Army stint as a paratrooper and broadcast operations supervisor at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command in Fort Bragg, N.C. He was honorably discharged in early 2013 after a 15-month tour in Iraq, and a four-year term as the Artistic Director for the U.S. Army Soldier Show.

While serving overseas, Lynum coached basketball at Fort Belvoir where he led his team to three straight regular season championships.  Shortly after he was re-assigned to Fort Bragg, Lynum accepted the position of head freshman basketball coach at Overhills High School, and led the Jaguars to a 6-2 season.

“I have never been anywhere where I have not had the opportunity to coach the game I love,” said Lynum who has been stationed in Colorado, Washington D.C., Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.

In 2011, Lynum established the Florida Suns, a girls’ basketball organization that sponsors six teams that compete competitively across the nation. The organization is now a nationally-renowned college showcase girls’ basketball team that competes around the country.

Lynum is currently pursuing a doctorate in education with an emphasis in educational leadership at Southwestern College. He already holds a master of business administration from Warner University and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from American Military University.
