Mavericks Compete at Bob Smith Open

Maverick Wrestling is back after competing at the Bob Smith Open. Northwest Tech competed against several of the top D2 programs: Adams State, Nebraska-Kearney, Central Oklahoma, and OSU unattached wrestlers. Barton, Cloud County, Labette, and Pratt were some of the teams there from the KJCCC.

Bryce Boumans at 149 and Richie Lee at 165 both came away with fourth-place finishes. "Boumans and Richie grow each week as they gain college wrestling experience. Boumans is a rare athlete. Boumans is so powerful and athletic he sometimes just battles. We are seeing great strides in his technique, and he is getting better with every match," commented Coach Guillot. "Richie is starting to settle in with confidence and knowing he belongs with the top wrestlers in Jr. College. He needs to pull the trigger more from a lower stance. As Richie's stance positioning grows, so will his defense. I see great potential in him to be one of the top kids at 165."

Jameel Coles and Hunter Gonzales had to sit this week. Cody Francis is expected back at 133 in January after an early-season injury in practice. The Maverick's next meet will be on January 6th at Iowa State. The rest of the team results are available at the link below.
