PRs galore at Fort Hays meet

October 10, 2015, Fort Hays State University Open at Sand Plum, Victoria Kansas

The Northwest Tech Maverick Men and Women were in action once again at the FHSU Open in Victoria, KS. This was a huge meet with 41 total teams and 673 total competitors divided among 4 races. The Maverick men and women raced in the Black division of races, which consisted largely of NJCAA schools and NAIA schools. The Gold division consisted of NCAA DI and DII schools and a few very competitive NJCAA and NAIA schools. While the places weren't the best of the season, the team's times were all PRs or near PRs.

Purity Jepleting (FR, MA, Kenya) was largely right on with her career PR of 20:38.5. She finished 29th out of 133 female athletes in the Black race..
The winning time for the women's Black race was 17:44.5. Winning the women's Black division was Friends University with 76 points.

Jeff Lazo (FR, AT, Denver, CO) was first for the Maverick men as he set a new PR for himself of 27:32.6.. He placed 46th out of 185 male athletes in the Black race.

Jamall Theodile (FR, BT, New Iberia, LA) also set a new PR with a 29:23.8. He finished in 122nd place.

Finishing 3rd again this week for the Mavericks was Ace Arteaga (FR, EL, Goodland, KS). He set a new PR and ran under 30 minutes for the first time this season with a 29:57.5.  He placed 137th. 

Daniel Alvarado (FR, CGT, Cozad, NE) finished 4th for the Mavericks in 162nd place with a time of 31:30.7. 

Rounding out the 5 Maverick runners was Jameslee Banning (SO, EL, Burden, KS). He finished 169th out of 185 athletes, for a season best of 32:12.9.

Winning the men's Black race was Kansas Wesleyan with 94 points. The Maverick men finished with 505 points, enough to beat Colorado College (518) and Oklahoma Panhandle State (540). The winning individual time was 24:04.8 by a runner from Iowa Western Community College.

The Mavericks will be off for a few weeks before their final meet of the season at the NJCAA Region VI Championships in Olathe, KS hosted by Johnson County Community College on October 31st.
