Maverick runners earn academic recognition

Northwest Tech is pleased to announce that the Men's Cross Country team has earned a place in the NJCAA Cross Country Coaches Association Academic Team standings. Teams submitted their GPAs and hours earned, the results were tabulated, and teams were ranked based on those numbers. The Scholar All America Team Award goes to teams with a minimum of 5 athletes whose GPAs are at least a 2.50 or better.
The men's team consisting of Jeffrey Lazo, Jamal Theodile, Daniel Alvarado, Ace Arteaga, and Jameslee Banning earned a team cumulative GPA of 3.150, placing them 17th in the nation. The Maverick Men just narrowly missed out on a slightly higher honor of Scholar All America Team of the Year; the requirement was a team cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher. Additionally, Jeffrey Lazo and Jamall Theodile earned Scholar All America honors. To be considered for Scholar All America, students must have a minimum of a 3.40 GPA.
With only one woman this year participating for women's team, there wasn't enough athletes for the team awards, however, Purity Jepleting earned Scholar All America honors as well.
We are very pleased with our athletes' efforts in the classroom as well on the cross country course.
