Jan 30, 2021

The Lady Mavericks opened the 20-21 basketball season Wednesday night, with a hard fought win over the Cloud County Community College T-Birds. The Mavericks shot 35% from the field as they put up 71 total shots during the game, 43 of those coming from beyond the arc. Lauryn Vieira, the returning KJCCC West Defensive Player of the Year, scored a team high, 28 points. Sophomore transfer, Chloe Andrew was not far behind with 26 points. "We are a better team than last year and I thought we finished the game well and played for the full 40 minutes", said Vieira. The Mavericks scored 19 points off 14 T-Bird turnovers, as well as 16 second chance points. Chloe Andrew lead the Mavericks from beyond the arc, as she went 7 for 17. "I felt a great sense of accomplishment, we worked so hard to get where we are and being so lowly ranked, this win will hopefully earn us more respect as a team", added Andrew. The Mavericks will travel to take on the Independence Pirates Saturday at 2pm CT.
