Mavericks break records at first outdoor meet

The Northwest Tech Men's and Women's Track teams were in action in their first outdoor meet of the year. They attended the Butch Reynolds invitational at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kan. Combined, the men and women set 12 new school records and had one athlete qualify for the NJCAA National meet in Texas in May.

Adam Tate, a sophomore in Collision Repair from Castle Rock, CO, finished second in the Hammer Throw with a 45.45m throw to qualify for Nationals. He currently has the 3rd best throw in NJCAA. This was almost a full meter better than his previous school record.

Other new school record holders are:

Richie Benson, a freshman in Carpentry from Conifer, Colo. in the 200m

Malcolm Peter, a freshman in Business Technology from New Iberia, La. in the 400m (Peter also holds the Indoor 400m record)

Kord Albers, a sophomore Engineering student from Hays, Kan. broke his own record in the 400m Hurdles

Jeffrey Lazo, a freshman Automotive Technology student from Denver, Colo. in the 800m

Daniel Alvarado, a freshman Computer Graphics student from Cozad, Neb. in the 1500m

Jamall Theodile, a freshman Business student from New Iberia, La. in the 3000m Steeplechase

Justin Banks, a freshman Business student from Munford, Ala. in the Long Jump

Matthew Whitley, a freshman Welding student from Concordia, Kan. in the Pole Vault

The 4x100m relay team consisting of Banks, Peter, Chris Heath (freshman from Denver, Colo. in Business), and Gabe Longworth (freshman in Automotive Technology from McClave, Colo.)

Rohey Singhateh, a freshman Business Technology student from Atwood, Kan. in the long jump

Purity Jepleting, a freshman Medical Assistant student in the 1500m

Although the meet was unscored, the strong performances by the many members of the team are sure to help the Mavericks make an impact in NJCAA Region VI, one of the toughest Regions in NJCAA. The Mavericks are off for Spring Break but will be back in action at Sterling College (Kansas) on March 24th.
