Men's Cross Country Places Second in First Meet of the Season

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Northwest Tech Cross Country returns from the Terry Masterson Classic on Saturday, where they finished 2nd overall.

Fort Hays State won the meet, scoring 26 points, with all of their runners scoring in the top 10. Northwest Tech came in 2nd with 65 points, with two runners scoring in the top 10. Taber College finished 3rd with 90 points.

Kabelo Maja led the team, placing 9th overall with a time of (20:59.02). Just behind was Lucky Maila, finishing 10th with a time of (21:03.61).

Coming in 17th was Sibonokuhle Thwala, with a time of (21:29.26). Next, placing 23rd was Ronin Rybnika, with a time of (21:58.80). Rounding out the scoring for the Mavericks was Daniel Cornelissen, finishing 28th with a time of (22:05.39).

Also competing in the race was Denis Kibet with a time of (26:26.97), Connor Purvis with a time of (27:57.01), and Teagon Reeves with a time of (29:33.36).

"I was happy with their first meet performance," commented Coach Sambu. "I have learned a lot about my runners these past few weeks, and with the first meet out of the way, I have a better understanding of everyone's strengths and weaknesses. I have been impressed with how the team has worked well together in training and competition and see much room for improvement once everyone is healthy."

The Maverick's next meet will be on September 16th at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite in Lincoln, Nebraska.
