Dominique Evans named NJCAA Wrestling All-American

Dominique Evans named NJCAA Wrestling All-American

Dominique Evans, is a fine example of the adage hard work pays off. Having never been a state placer from nearby Denver, Colorado, Evans showed vast improved over his career here at Northwest Kansas Tech. Head Coach Micheal Sebaaly noted that "Dom finished off his career right, because he bought-in and did things right, not only in practice but outside of practice as well. Evans was also named an NWCA Academic All American. He was never afraid of putting in extra work with Coach Barksdale (A 4x All American and National Champion at Adams State) and worked hard to improve."

Evans went 4-2 at the national tournament to finish the season with an overall record of 30-14, which included winning the Doane Tournament where he beat this year's NAIA National Champion in the finals. When asked about Evans performance at the national tournament, Coach Sebaaly mentioned "Dom's tournament started off with a disappointing first round match that he could of won. He showed resiliency however from that setback to win 3 matches in a row to earn the right to be an NJCAA All-American."  The three matches where Evans had success were all aginst strong competitors, ranked in the NJCAA final rankings for his weight class. In the blood round on Friday night to become an All-American Evans who had gotten to nationals as a wildcard selection, defeated the wrestler who had won the regional tournament by a score of 8-4. Evans finished the tournament and his career as a Maverick with a medical forfeit victory over Anthony Maia of Iowa Lakes.

Great job Dominique!
