Maverick Wrestling Announces Second Generation of Willie Gadson Wrestlers

Maverick Wrestling Announces Second Generation of Willie Gadson Wrestlers

Northwest Tech Wrestling is proud to announce the second generation of Willie Gadson Wrestlers. "It doesn't get any more special than to have these young men be a part of the Gadson Legacy coaching system," commented Coach Guillot.

The first generation included: Nate Carr, Chris Guillot, and Ramico Blackmon; who were all coached by legendary wrestling coach Willie Gadson. Willie was best known for being a 2x undefeated Jr. College National Champ, 2x All-American at Iowa State, and coaching at both a high school and collegiate level.

Second Generation Willie Gadson Wrestlers:

133lbs- Samuel Blackmon, son of Ramico Blackmon (2x College All-American, US Freestyle Wrestling National Champion, 4x US National Team Member, 2x Olympic alternate (freestyle), former US Olympic Training Center Resident, and a former MMA Fighter).

149lbs- Bryce Boumans, son of Kerry Boumans (4x NAIA All-American, 2x NAIA National Champion, Olympic trial finalist, World Team alternate, and Olympic alternate).

174lbs - Jonathan Carr, son of Nate Carr, and a part of the legendary Carr Wrestling Family. Notable members of the Carr family include: Fletcher Carr (an All-American at the University of Tampa, and is the first African-American to be a head coach in NCAA Division I wrestling at the University of Kentucky), Jimmy Carr (the youngest American wrestler to compete in the Olympics), and Nate Carr (3x NCAA champion, 2x Big Eight Conference Champion, won the World Cup and the Pan-American Championships in 1986, won a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, and won a gold medal at the 1990 Goodwill Games).

Editors Note: this is a very brief breakdown of the accomplishments that can be attributed to the Carr Wrestling Family.

Assistant Coach- Lelund Weatherspoon, a 2x Iowa State All-American, 2x Big 12 Champion, Kyven Gadson's workout and training partner at Iowa State University, and was coached by Kevin Jackson (a member of the 1987 NCAA National Championship team and NCAA runner-up, 1992 Olympic gold medalist, 2x Pan American Games gold medalist, member of the 1993 and 1995 World Championship Team, 3x U.S. National Champion, first American to win the Takhti Cup in 1998, and briefly competed in MMA).

The Men's Wrestling Team will have their first match on November 7th at the University of Northern Colorado. You can check out the rest of the Men's Wrestling Schedule at the link below.
