
Women's Basketball Falls at Barton
The FHNW Women's Basketball team fell to the Barton Community College Cougars on Wednesday, with a final score of 47-71.
Fort Hays Tech started strong, taking an early lead. However, Barton quickly closed the gap, tying the game at 8-8 by the five-minute mark. The teams traded baskets in a competitive first quarter, which ended with Tech ahead, 17-13. In the second quarter, Barton would mount another offensive surge, taking the lead, 21-19, four minutes into the quarter. The back-and-forth action would continue, with the Tigers ultimately leading, 27-25, going into halftime.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the third quarter as Barton came out firing with a 10-0 run. Although Tech managed to end the scoring drought, their offensive struggles persisted. The Cougars would outscore them 13-4 for the rest of the quarter, stretching their lead to 48-33. FHNW would attempt an offensive surge, but the Cougars maintained control, as they further widened their lead with a 20 plus point win.
Looking at the stat sheet, Dekeira Clay was the only player to score in double figures, with 21 points while also leading the way in rebounding with eight.
The Lady Tigers will return to play on Wednesday, January 15th, against the Colby Community College Trojans.
