Men's Basketball Pick up their First Win in Season Opener
Men's basketball won over Lamar Community College in their season opener, 92-76. The game got off to a slower start with both teams struggling to put the ball in the bucket.
John Troolin would get the scoring going for the Tigers, draining a three-pointer from the corner. Tech would take the lead around the 16-minute mark and extend the lead out to double digits with just under 10 minutes to play in the first half. Lamar would continue to stay in the game with the majority of their points coming in the paint. Fort Hays Tech would go into halftime maintaining their double-digit lead, 43-31.
In the second half, both teams would waste no time as they put points on the board. Lamar would quickly pull the lead back to within 10 points as they continued to drive to the bucket and move the ball up and down the court, picking up points in transition. Tech would continue to compete, picking up a lot of second-chance points as they dominated the boards with a total of 18 offensive rebounds, keeping a comeback out of range for the Lamar Lopers. The majority of Northwest's points came from sophomore transfer Chanse Harris, with 35 points on the game, with the majority coming in the second half. Troolin also had a good game, scoring 21 points and shooting 5 of 9 from beyond the arc. One area where Tech struggled early on was at the free throw line shooting 14-21 at 67% as they struggled to put the ball through the hoop. Overall, FHNW men's basketball played a convincing season opener as they outperformed Lamar in almost every statistical category.
Fort Hays Tech Northwest will return to play on Friday, November 15th, to play in a tournament in Casper, Wyoming.
