
Track & Field Compete at Region VI Indoor Championships
Fort Hays Tech Northwest Track & Field competed at the KJCCC/Region VI Indoor Championships over the weekend, with the men's team placing 11th overall with 30 points.
Sprints & Field Events
In the 60 Meters, Damain Darlington placed 31st with a time of 7.13 seconds and then finished 43rd in the 200 Meters with a time of 24.99 seconds.
Long & Middle Distance
In the 600 Meters, Salisu Habibu placed 8th, setting a new school record, with a time of 1:21.17. Maciej Bachlaj also competed, placing 18th with a time of 1:25.55.
In the Women's 600 Meters, Mikela Coombs placed 11th, setting another school record with a time of 1:46.19. Mikela now holds the school record in the 200, 300, 400, and 600 Meters.
In the 800 Meters, Salisu Habibu placed 4th, with a time of 1:56.03, and then placed 7th in the 1000 Meters, with a time of 2:35.19.
In the Mile, Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 5th with a time of 4:11.14. Daniel Cornelissen also competed, finishing 14th with a time of 4:40.10.
In the 3000 Meters, Sibonokuhle Thwala placed 1st, winning the event, with a time of 8:22.18. Lucky Maila placed 12th with a time of 9:09.28.
In the Women's 3000 Meters, Celestine Kiborus placed 10th, with a time of 11:14.06.
In the 5000 Meters, Daniel Cornelissen placed 15th, with a time of 16:30.85.
In the Men's Distance Medley Relay, the Tigers placed 2nd, qualifying for nationals with a time of 10:17.80. The following athletes took part in the relay: Lucky Maila, Maciej Bachlaj, Salisu Habibu, and Sibonokuhle Thwala.
With Regionals now over, the Tigers will turn their attention to preparing for the NJCAA National Championships with Salisu Habibu qualifying in the 800 Meters and the Medley Relay; Sibonokuhle Thwala qualifying in the Mile, 3000 Meters, and Medley Relay; and Lucky Maila and Maciej Bachlaj qualifying as part of the Medley Relay.
The National Championships are scheduled to take place in Lubbock, Texas, from March 7th through the 8th.
