Otgonbayar Batsurri Wins Elite Division at Younes Hospitality Open

Kearney, NE – Fort Hays Tech Northwest competed at the Younes Hospitality Open tournament on Saturday. FHNW was the only junior college to enter any wrestlers in the Elite Division of the tournament, with seven wrestlers; the Elite Division consisted of NCAA Division I, Division II, and NAIA schools.

"We went to Kearney this weekend to the largest tournament in the country," said Head Coach Chris Guillot. "This team is growing fast, competing to the last second and getting 1% better every day. We had many wrestlers win their first match or matches at the college level as well. The effort was there, and so was the battle. They are all growing fast and adjusting well to the higher level of intensity and technique."

Notable Performances:

John Kenney (133lbs) went 3-2 in the Amateur Division, winning his first two matches by Decision and his third match by Sudden Victory over Rashaud Morgan (Pratt Community College). Kenney would lose by Fall in the quarterfinals to a Division I wrestler from Air Force and lose in the wrestlebacks to Marcus Terry (Labette Community College) by Decision.

Tucker Wark (141lbs) went 2-2 in the Amateur Division, with two wins by Fall and two losses by Fall and Major Decision.

Job Lee (157lbs) went 2-2 in the Elite Division, with one match won by Fall and one by Sudden Victory against DezMonde Garterell (Nebraska). Job would take a Medical Forfeit in his remaining two matches.

Otgonbayar Batsuuri (174lbs) went 5-0, placing 1st in the Elite Division. Batsuuri won all but one of his matches with bonus points, with one Fall, one Tech Fall, one Decision, and two Major Decisions to win the tournament.

Lazaro Crespo (184lbs) went 3-2 in the Elite Division, winning two matches by Major Decision, one match by Fall, and only losing two matches by Decision.

Victor Samuel Lamar Montoya (197lbs) went 2-2, winning two of his matches by Fall and losing two of his matches by Fall.

Jeisser Samson Sánchez (285lbs) went 4-2, winning one match by Fall, one by Major Decision, one by Decision, and one by Medical Forfeit. Both of Sánchez's losses were by Decision.

"Man, our guys wrestled hard," commented Assistant Coach Ramico Blackmon. "So grateful for the team we have and the potential in the room this year. It was a big tournament this weekend with big goals. Some were accomplished, while others were delayed for another time. As one of the coaches for this squad of warriors, I was not disappointed whatsoever. We were the only junior college with wrestlers in the Elite Division and came out with some great wins over Division 1 wrestlers and came out with a champion. Augie is an intelligent and extremely calculated beast. Congrats to all our guys for performances that set them in a position to become their very best for the time they need to be that. Big congrats to Chris Guillot for his recruiting efforts to draw this caliber of a team to embrace the greatest physical grind there is."

Tiger Wrestling will return to competition on Friday, December 6th, with a dual against #5 ranked (NCAA Division II) Nebraska-Kearney and then on Sunday, December 8th at the Bob Smith Open in Hays, KS.
