Women's Basketball Falls to North Platte in Season Opener

Northwest Tech Women's Basketball Fell to North Platte on Wednesday, 53-62. The game got out to a slow start and continued to be throughout the first half with the score at 18-23 at halftime. 

In the second half, the Lady Mavs finally got it going in scoring, however they were never able to get any momentium going due to foul trouble, with four players fouling out of the game. Athough the final score was within 10 points, it seemed to feel much more out of range due to the numerous fouls.

Neither team shot well throughout the game, however, the real difference came down to the freethrow line. North Platte shot 70% on 40 attempts, whereas the Lady Mavericks shot just 50% on 22 attempts. Jalynn Alexander was the team leader in points and rebounds, with a 13-13 double-double.

"With the first game jitters behind us, I think we've found our rhythm and showed that we can become a tough team to beat," said Assistant Coach Marshall. "We're eager to hit the drawing board and make the necessary adjustments. We're confident that we'll perform well this season and are fully committed to making that a reality."

Head Coach Baker later commented, "We had an extremely slow start. We went up early, and it’s ideal that we keep the lead once we gain it, but we let get away and didn’t quite find a rhythm. These first few games are to prepare us for conference play so I look at it as preparation. Jalynn Alexander was definitely a bright spot for us. She’s a solid piece for us with her rebounding and shot blocking ability."

Women's Basketball will return to play on Tuesday, November 7th, at McCook Comunity College.
