Women's Basketball Falls at Butler
Fort Hays Tech Northwest women's basketball fell to the Butler Community College Grizzlies on Friday, 49-86.
Butler would get out to a quick start, gaining a seven-point lead two minutes into the game. Tech would call a quick timeout before getting their offense going with a pair of threes from Miriam Mbulito Upolo and Alba Garrido Lamas. However, Northwest's offense would stall again, and Butler would proceed to go on a 17-4 run to end the quarter. The Grizzlies would continue their scoring run into the second quarter, with Tech remaining scoreless until just over five minutes in with the score now at 13-42. Tech's offense would largely be carried by sophomore Torrai Logan, who scored 7 of the Tiger's 13 points in the second quarter. The half would end with Butler leading, 56-23.
The Tigers would come out of halftime playing much tougher defense, holding the Grizzlies to just 12 points in the third quarter while scoring 13 points of their own. Unfortunately, the deficit would prove too much, as the Tigers were prevented from putting together any sort of scoring run by Butler's defense.
Overall, the Tech struggled to find any consistency in their offense while also being unable to stop Butler's scoring runs in the first half. One bright spot for the Lady Tigers would be their free throw shooting, going 12 for 12. Al'asia Brown was the lone Tiger in double figures with 20 points.
The Lady Tigers' next game will be against the Pratt Community College Beavers this Wednesday, December 11th.
