Women's basketball fell in their home opener to the Coffeyville Community College Red Ravens on Thursday, 37-73.
It would be a rough start to the game, as the Red Ravens outscored the Tigers, 32-8, in the first quarter with Tech accumulating 11 turnovers. The Tigers would slow down the Red Ravens' scoring in the second quarter but were unable to generate much offense of their own, shooting 22% from the field. The half would end with Coffeyville leading, 44-18.
Not much would change in the second half, with Tech struggling to hold on to the ball. Tech's shooting would improve in the third quarter, shooting 45.5% from the field with Coffeyville's offense remaining slowed for the rest of the game. However, in the fourth, Tech's offense would stall again, as they only made 2 of 13 field goals to end the game.
Tech would have one player (Torrai Logan) score in double figures. Sarah Elfrey would lead the way in rebounds with eight. The Tigers would struggle to do much of anything offensively as many of their possessions ended in turnovers. Another huge difference in the game was Coffeyville's ability to get the ball in the paint, scoring 34 points there to Tech's 10 while also getting to the foul line as a result. The Red Ravens would shoot 20 free throws to the Tigers 6.
The Tigers will return to play against the Garden City Broncbusters on Tuesday.
